Our pastor presented a wonderful, refreshing biography of a Godly man today. The life of A.W. Tozer, pastor and writer has long been an encouragement to me. His book, The Pursuit of God, is a classic. Indeed, a dear pastor friend of mine and long time friend of my family suggested it to me when I was but a sixteen-year-old camper at Black Hills Baptist Camp. I still have that copy with my name and the date I bought it.
Thinking of that today made me remember a song that also has long been a favorite of mine. Entitled Psalm 42, (as far as I know) it is sung to (or based upon) the tune for The Water is Wide.
As the hart* longs for flowing streams,
So longs my soul for Thee, O God.
My soul does thirst for the living God.
When shall I come to see Thy face?
========================
My tears have fed me day and night,
While men have said, “Where is your God?”
But I recall, as my soul pours dry,
The days of praise, within Thy house.
==========================
Why do I mourn, and toil within,
when it is mine to hope in God?
I shall again sing praise to Him.
He is my help. He is my God.

I first heard this song as presented by The Men of Faith from Faith Baptist Bible College, Ankeny, IA, in 1982, so it’s been with me awhile. I am unsure of the lyricist, but would give credit where credit is due if anyone knows the name of that person.
